COMPUTER ASSOCIATES:
A new leader brings identity change
A use of identity, by a leader
New: "CA" logo
Launched: January 2, 2001
Story in brief:
Computer Associates has been a sales target for identity firms for as long as I can remember; the mark was pedestrian but Charles Wang evidently liked it. No dice, until the appointment of Sanjay Kumar as CEO broke the log jam.
Landor won the assignment. The strategy is to stick with, indeed emphasise, the "CA" initials but express change, specifically a new focus on e-business software.

First Impressions:
It's better, not great but fresh, and more distinctive. The idea of 'focus' is clearer when the mark is animated than in print; but what is its relevance, and why focus on "a?" For that matter why bold "Associates?"
But that's nitpicking. Congratulations, Mr. Kumar, for knowing how to effect this change and reinvigorate CA.
