World Trade Center Memorial Foundation

Logo designed by Gene Grossman

The memorial itself, which features two giant reflecting pools in the tower footprints, has a name -- "Reflecting Absence." Gene has given its Foundation a symbol which brilliantly embodies that name. It's beautiful, and touching.

It's easy to see where Gene got the idea. Whether you look down into the reflecting pools or up, from beneath them, to the sky the image in your mind may be the memory of these towers.

"This is a poignant symbol that reminds us that we can never forget the tragedy and also the courage of that day. We are so thankful to Gene for his tremendous expertise and the enormous amount of time and hard work he volunteered. His goodwill continues the generosity which New Yorkers experienced after September 11th. This symbol makes the Foundation proud." Gretchen Dykstra

"I wanted the symbol of the Memorial to capture the power of the structure yet preserve the sanctity of that day. The rhomboid that surrounds the image of the towers suggests an upward view through a window to the sky, open to both memories of the past and aspirations for the future."
Gene Grossman

Gene was a colleague at Lippincott & Margulies in the early 60s, and then a founder of the esteemed Anspach Grossman Portugal, later Enterprise IG. This is his first significant work as an newly independent identity designer.
